On the 21st of April, NAFTC Turkey Director Mr. Michael Westenberg and Cluster Manager Ms. Seda Buyuksolak were on the road to meet with stakeholders. One of the meetings was with YUM-BIR (The Turkish Egg Producers Association) in Ankara.

The purpose of the visit was the introduction of the NAFTC Turkey office and to discuss the mutual interest and a possible cooperation.

Topics discussed with Dr. Huseyin Sungur , Secretary General of YUM-BIR, were the poultry sector, egg production, market developments, reasons of the current egg price fluctuations   and gaps in the Turkish egg market. There is for example a gap in the animal health (biosecurity), marketing and unplanned production.

Turkey is one of the top 10 producing egg countries and the number 3 exporting egg country. As the Ministry of Agriculture pays remarkable attention to engage with EU legislations, Yum-BIR with their 600 members has been appointed to act as a bridge between the Turkish producers and the Ministry of Agriculture in order to help Turkish producers to comply to the EU legislations, while increasing their high knowledge to even a higher level.

Further cooperation between NAFTC Turkey and YUM-BIR, participation of the September round table, B2B meetings and a possible market visit to The Netherlands have been discussed as well.

NAFTC Turkey and YUM-BIR expressed their agreement on setting up a formal cooperation under an MOU in the coming months – a formal cooperation will bring benefits to members of both organisations, allowing direct acces to bilateral trade opportunities.
